Colette Taylor

Colette Taylor is EVP & Chief Operating Officer at Sovereign Insurance, where she helps shape the organization’s strategy and operations. She has spent her time at Sovereign on the difficult problems rather than the visible ones with a clear focus on sustainable growth, strong partnerships and greater value for Canadian businesses.

With more than 30 years of experience in the P&C insurance industry, Colette brings a broad perspective spanning commercial and specialty insurance, underwriting, distribution and broker relationships. At Sovereign, she was pivotal in steering the organization to profitability, building capability where it was thin, strengthening how the business runs, and positioning Sovereign to compete on its own terms in Canadian commercial insurance.

Colette builds teams that perform. She mentors young insurance professionals inside Sovereign and across the industry, and she leads on diversity, equity and inclusion by example. Developing the next generation of insurance leaders is an important part of her focus. Her leadership and contributions to the industry have been recognized by Insurance Business, including being named to its Global 100 and as one of Canada’s Elite Women.

Originally from New Zealand, Colette now calls Toronto home, where she lives with her husband, two children, two cats and a bunny.
