Mike George

Mike George is the founding CEO of Tokio Marine Canada Ltd. (TMCan), a Canadian domestic P&C insurance company providing a full suite of commercial and specialty lines products and capacity to the Canadian market. Mike began work on regulatory approval for the new company in mid-2020 which subsequently wrote its first premium in April of 2022. TMCan is owned by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire in Japan, a highly rated and reputable global insurance powerhouse.

A seasoned insurance executive, Mike has a track record of successfully building insurance companies from the ground up. Most recently, Mike was co-founder and CEO of Trisura Guarantee Insurance Company, which started operations in 2006 and went public on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 2017. Mike retired from Trisura in 2019, taking some time off before deciding to re-engage with Tokio Marine.

With over 35 years of insurance expertise, Mike began his career after graduating from McMaster University as a financial analyst in the surety business with Guarantee Company of North America in 1988. In 1990, he joined Wellington Guarantee, a start-up which became London Guarantee Insurance Company in 1995. London Guarantee was subsequently acquired by The St. Paul Companies Inc. in 2002, at which time Mike was responsible for the front lines of the company. Soon after, St. Paul merged with Travelers and the Canadian operation was re-named Travelers Guarantee Insurance Company. Mike left Travelers in 2005 to found Trisura.

Mike has prior involvement in board or committee positions with several charities including Children’s Wish (Ontario Chapter), Covenant House and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada.
