TORONTO, August 4, 2026 - Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) Canada is celebrating its first year of incorporation. With recently received charitable status, the launch of a website and its first Annual General Meeting held in June, new developments are setting the stage for the Foundation’s sustained success.
“In May of 2025, we set out to establish a new charitable organization that would unite the Canadian insurance industry around a common purpose: to help those in need through giving and volunteer engagement. The insurance industry has always been philanthropic, but by working together, we’re demonstrating a collective commitment to give back. Through the leadership of our Member Companies and our recently received charitable status, we’re entering an important new chapter for the Foundation where we can better amplify our mission as we come together to do great work.” - Marc Lipman, Chair, IICF Canada and President, Lloyd’s America’s
IICF Canada was granted charitable status in early June of this year. The organization is designated as a Public Foundation.
The Foundation and its Members celebrated its charitable status at its first Annual General Meeting, which was held on June 17th, 2026. Members of IICF Canada reconfirmed the Foundation’s Board of Directors, appointed an auditor and applauded its crucial governance, policy and programmatic developments to date. In his remarks as Chair, Marc Lipman thanked all Member Companies and Board Directors for their participation in helping to form a new organization.
IICF Canada was founded in May of 2025 after a group of executives in the Canadian insurance industry gathered to affirm the need for an industry wide charitable foundation. It was launched with funding commitments from seven companies, which grew to fifteen companies by the end of 2025, all of whom are recognized as Founding Member Companies. IICF Canada’s Founding Member Companies are: Accenture, AIG, Allianz Commercial, Aon, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, Burns & Wilcox, CNA, Crawford & Company (Canada) Inc., First Onsite Restoration, Lloyd’s, Markel, Northbridge Financial Corporation, Sompo, Teachers Life and Tokio Marine Canada Ltd. IICF Canada is excited to welcome HUB as a Member Company in 2026.
Outside of Canada, IICF has a history of successfully uniting the insurance industry through charitable giving with 31 years operating in the U.S. and 10 years operating in the UK. While sharing the IICF name and model, IICF Canada is a Canadian-incorporated organization that is working with Canadian operating and multinational insurance companies to serve Canadian communities in need. Specifically, the Foundation’s grants and volunteer efforts will serve children and youth at risk and will seek to alleviate food insecurity.
To better showcase IICF Canada and its work, the Foundation recently launched a website. Visitors to the website can learn more about IICF Canada’s mission, programs, Board of Directors, Member Companies, upcoming events and more. With a greater online presence, the Foundation seeks to expand its network of Members and donors to achieve greater charitable impact.
In May, IICF Canada took part in the global IICF Step Up Challenge, where participants donated $4,500 to the national charity Children First Canada.
Later this year, IICF Canada will issue its first grant(s), and will be present at the National Insurance Conference of Canada (NICC) to host a care kit packing activity, where items will be donated to a local charity in Quebec City.
Its first fundraising event and additional charitable initiatives are currently being planned.
